My function band showcase today is all about the alternative! Stan Darsh are a one-off, jaw-dropping function band for those who want something no one else has at their function, party or wedding. Formed in the snowy peaks of France, Stan Darsh are here to make your jaw drop!
This all-male power quartet have been performing around the world at some of the most exclusive events, parties and functions for some time now and are all about the alternative live show. Expert musicians who have performed together for many years, Stan Darsh wanted to create a function band that they could let loose in and you could let loose too! If you’re bored of the same old tunes being performed by the same old function bands, Stan Darsh are the cure. One week you’ll find them performing at an extreme sports festival in Europe and the next at a wedding or function in our fine capital. They travel all over, bringing their infectious, alternative and truly unique live show to dance-hungry crowds everywhere! I’m getting excited just thinking about their live show!
I got to chat away with Dan, the frontman and rhythm guitarist of Stan Darsh about life, music, food and cats! Learn all about that and his fantastic band below…
I’m Dan the lead singer and guitarist of Stan Darsh. I’ve studied music at the Guitar Institute LCMM, played in many bands, tours and festivals. Stan Darsh was formed over a beer after a great day of snowboarding in Morzine, France. We wanted to make a really different kind of function band, one that was really unique and fun.
Most days I’ll be doing some sort of guitar practice and learning new songs for the band. Weekends are generally taken up with a gig or two anywhere around the UK, sometimes even a cheeky trip to somewhere in Europe.
In Stan Darsh, I get to play all the rock and indie tunes I grew up with as well as playing alongside some of my best mates. We have such a laugh both on and off stage which I feel comes across when you see us play.
It may sound cliché but for me, music is such an expressive art form. When I’m on stage playing the guitar, I’m in my happy place, and seeing the audience singing and dancing along is a real buzz.
The best part of being a musician is being paid to do the thing I love and entertain people. Not many downsides but the long hours spent on motorways before and after a show is probably the hardest part, you can sometimes spend more time in the car in one day than actually being at the venue!
My all-time favourite show would have to be headlining a festival for an end-of-season winter party in the Alps. Blasting out guitar solos and riffs with the stage on the piste looking out to the mountains was pretty surreal.
The most embarrassing moment would have to be forgetting the first line to a couple’s first dance song. we must have jammed around the intro 10 times before the audience started singing at me! Sometimes no matter how many times you perform a song your mind can go blank.
The funniest things I’ve seen at a show have to be people dancing and falling over (mostly drunk), I love ‘You’ve Been Framed’.
I have a lot of favourite songs that we perform but I never get bored of playing any Rage Against The Machine track, the place goes off, guaranteed.
You can’t deny that Mr Brightside is a definite dance floor filler. Or any Foo Fighters track for that matter.
Stan Darsh are definitely an apres ski, festival or big rock party band. We’re planning some big summer gigs this year and some winter alpine tours next winter.
If I wasn’t a musician I would love to work as a guide in the Alps. Biking, hiking and snowboarding are big passions of mine.
I love all food but if I had to pick I’d go for Thai or Chinese food. I could eat Big noodles and bowls of ramen for days.
My ultimate holiday destination would be a big road trip through Canada and Alaska visiting all the national parks. You can’t beat a good road trip in a camper van.
When I get a day off I really like to go out for a big ride on my motorbike, mountain biking or skateboarding. Anything on wheels I’m generally a big fan of.
If I could see any music festival or concert it would have been seeing Queen or Michael Jackson live.
If I had a top tip I’d say if you love rock music and festivals book Stan Darsh, you won’t be disappointed. It’s your event and if you’re having a good time so will your guests.
