Welcome to another showcase with this month’s band being none other than our stellar live wedding band From the Top. This larger than life big band offers up fantastic live music at some of the finest weddings, festivals, events and parties around and once you watch their videos you’ll see why they are always in such high demand!
From the Top are one of our most experienced and long-serving live wedding bands and whether you choose their 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9-piece line up, their top draw professional musicians always work their socks off to bring you some highly polished and endlessly fun live wedding music! Their 6-9-piece line ups are always in high demand, garnering rave reviews and offer up live wedding entertainment that’s hard to top.
Dave, the bandleader and drummer from From the Top was kind enough to join me for a little chat.
I studied music at University, and it was there where the core of the band met (we went to University in Cardiff). Converse to the usual story, we’d all played in bands playing original material but really fancied having a go at playing classic, timeless songs that people knew – and enjoyed! By coincidence, we all lived in or around London, so after graduating we all decided to keep playing together and haven’t looked back since.
Performing with some of my very best friends and being invited in to help celebrate momentous days in people’s lives.
I think it chose me! I had music lessons from a very early age and come from a musical family.
Not long ago we played a wedding in Devon. The setup of the wedding was first class, the dancefloor was packed all night, and the food and hospitality were second to none. It’s nights like that where it all comes together, and you just can’t beat it. Thankfully we managed to capture the vibe of it on film for our latest promo video (above).
I wouldn’t call it embarrassing, but the minimal times it has happened, band members becoming ill mid-show can be difficult; firstly, having to disguise it from the audience to maintain the flow and standards of the show, but also having to re-arrange the setlist – and sometimes even structures of songs – completely on the fly. It certainly calls on all your experience!
In the early days of the band, we once had an Elvis impersonator, who may have been slightly worse for wear. He’d join us onstage for a few numbers …unfortunately it was then very difficult to get the King to leave the building once we’d finished!

I’m very fortunate to have been to many major music festivals around the world; some of my favourites in the UK have been Latitude and Wilderness. I’d hoped to go to Green Man in 2020, but I will now have to wait until next time!

As my family have cats, I was always a cat person…but now my girlfriend’s family have dogs I have to say both!
