Our popular live wedding band The Usual Suspects (above) perform it regularly and firmly agree! It’s just a fantastic feel-good first dance song and did you know that Freddie wrote this song while having a bath! You never know when inspiration is going to hit and with 296 million streams on Spotify, it was some inspiration!
2. All of Me – John Legend
John Legends All of Me is a massively popular first dance and all round wedding song because it’s so dam romantic! About as romantic as it gets to be honest!
It sounds great performed live when you have a wedding music band with a fantastic vocalist and pianist likeNight and Day (above) do. Even though the song only took Mr Legend three hours to write it has amassed over a billion streams on Spotify. Wow!
3. Shut Up and Dance – Walk the Moon
Love a bit of energy in your first dance? Walk the Moon’s Shut Up and Dance would be a good choice then. Modern, energetic and loads of fun, it’s simply a blast having your live wedding band perform this for you. We love its fun, rocky vibes which will be popular right into 2021 and 2022 for sure.

Even though Walk the Moon’s favourite accent is, err… Christopher Walken, their monster song has still amassed 838 million streams on Spotify and is a big reason Electric Jukebox (above) perform this regularly as a first dance!
4. You’ve Got the Love – Florence And The Machine
Who doesn’t know this tune?! It sounds fantastic live and should be at the top of your first dance list especially if you are having a festival, folk or barn stylised wedding. Not convinced? Well 282 million streams on Spotify don’t lie and do you remember the original ’80s version by Candi Stanton? It’s a dance classic, well worth a listen!

Florence’s version is a wedding classic with our female fronted wedding band All Night Disco (above) having performed it for plenty of couples first dances. Why? Because it’s a perfectly epic, folk stylised song wrapped up in modern romance.
5. How Long Will I Love You – Ellie Goulding
Romance is the name of the game again here with Ellie Goulding’s cover of the Waterboy’s classic, How Long Will I Love You. 278 million streams on Spotify shows how popular this tune is and I can testify to that with it being many couples first dance choice. Slow, stunning and romantic, this tune is easy to dance too and perfect as your first dance as a married couple.

If you fancy something a bit more up-tempo give the Waterboy’s original version a listen or hire Carolina (above) to perform her stunning piano-led version for your special day!
6. Your Song – Elton John
Put simply, this is a monster wedding tune. One of the most popular and perfect songs for those first dance photos and magic moments on the dance floor. Elton has racked up almost 400 million streams on Spotify but there’s plenty of different covers of this song out there for you to choose from. Almost like Freddie Mercury’s bathtub inspiration, Elton John wrote this song while having breakfast! Who would have thought?!

Our talented acoustic folk band Paper Boats (above) can’t get enough of this song and perform a pretty brilliant version for dance hungry wedding crowds. Fun, romance and great dancing opportunities await any couple that picks this song as their first dance. Did you know that Vance was obsessed with playing Metallica for years before he got his folk on? I think it was worth it considering he gets over 11 million streams a month on Spotify!
8. I Will Wait – Mumford And Sons
Mumford and Sons. Need I say more? These guys have written songs that seemed destined for couples weddings and first dances and I Will Wait has to be one of the best. Fun and romantic, I Will Wait has racked up 413 million streams on Spotify and will be a big wedding hit for years to come. Did you know that our colleague and drummer James from Paper Boats has performed alongside Mumford and Sons at Glastonbury festival and on tour? I better get his autograph!

Our wedding bandLeague of Gentlemen (above) blast out a great version of this tune most weekends so choosing this song would be far from a bad choice.
9. Shallow – Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper
Hollywood glitz is a good way to go if you want something a little different for your first dance and Shallow, the hit song from Lady Gaga and Bradley Coopers huge romantic movie “A Star is Born” is a great choice. When Lady Gaga wrote this with top producer Mark Ronson, she never envisioned it would become a massive Hollywood hit but with over a billion streams on Spotify, we’d say it is!

Romance and easy-going dancing are all part of this songs massive charm and it’s a big reason our all-girl wedding music band Gold Dust (above) perform it at a lot of weddings.
10. Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
Last but by no means least is arguably the most popular first dance song of the last 6 years. Thinking Out Loud which Mr Sheeran never imagined would be that popular is simply massive and requested more than any other song as a first dance by our wedding couples. It’s romantic, easy to dance to and wedding guests simply love it.
