"I can’t sing. I do sing, in the shower, in church and in places so far from any other human being that I feel reasonably safe but if I am honest I can’t sing and probably shouldn’t. I wish I could sing and, after today, I wish I could sing like Carolina. She has something about her that isn’t just heard, it’s felt as well. I don’t mean that her singing has you welling up although some of her songs are so sweetly delivered that it can easily happen. What I mean is that there is a quality to her singing that bypasses the ears. It comes in somewhere at the back of the neck, like a lover’s touch and makes you feel her music somewhere deep inside. There have been various singers at Bianco over the last few months and I have enjoyed all of them. Some I would listen to again were I in a place where they were playing; some I would make a conscious effort to go and see again but Carolina would draw me back without any decision on my part because hearing her sing is not just about listening it is a wholly different and uplifting experience. It’s not just me, as I look around the whole café seems entranced and transported to a place that is somewhere beyond the walls of the building.   "
